How the Debt-Free Stocks screen works

A stock is listed when it is an NSE-listed equity share and meets every condition below:

  • Debt to equity of zero
  • ROE of 15% or more
  • Latest quarter profit growth of 10% or more, year on year
  • EBITDA margin of 10% or more
  • Market cap of ₹500 Cr or more
  • Positive P/E (loss-making companies excluded)

Results are sorted by ROE, highest first. With no borrowings, the ROE here comes from the business itself rather than leverage, and rising rates do not squeeze earnings.

Debt-Free Stocks: common questions

How current are the financial figures?
Ratios built from results, such as growth, ROE, ROCE and margins, update as companies file their quarterly results. Price-based ratios such as P/E and P/B move with the share price every trading day, so a stock can enter or leave the screen between results.
Is every stock on this list a good investment?
No. A screen narrows thousands of listed companies down to those that meet a set of numeric conditions. It does not look at management, valuation history, sector outlook or news, so treat the list as a starting point for research.
