How the Small Cap Stocks screen works

A stock is listed when it is an NSE-listed equity share and meets every condition below:

  • Market cap between ₹500 Cr and ₹5,000 Cr

Results are sorted by market cap, largest first. Small caps can grow faster than larger companies but swing harder in both directions and are less liquid, so position size and trading volume matter more here.

Small Cap Stocks: common questions

What is a small cap stock?
On this page, a company worth between ₹500 Cr and ₹5,000 Cr in market cap. SEBI classifies stocks by market-cap rank, not by a rupee figure: the top 100 companies are large caps, ranks 101 to 250 are mid caps and rank 251 onwards are small caps. AMFI publishes the list every six months. Companies below ₹500 Cr are left out of this screen as micro caps.
Why does this list differ from a small cap index?
Indices such as the Nifty Smallcap 250 pick a fixed number of companies by rank and apply liquidity and free-float rules. This screen includes every NSE-listed equity whose market cap falls in the band today, so it is larger and updates as prices move.
How current are the financial figures?
Ratios built from results, such as growth, ROE, ROCE and margins, update as companies file their quarterly results. Price-based ratios such as P/E and P/B move with the share price every trading day, so a stock can enter or leave the screen between results.
Is every stock on this list a good investment?
No. A screen narrows thousands of listed companies down to those that meet a set of numeric conditions. It does not look at management, valuation history, sector outlook or news, so treat the list as a starting point for research.
