ELSS appears twice above because AMFI reports it under both an open-ended and a close-ended structure. They are separate categories with separate assets, and AMFI counts both in its own total, so both are shown rather than merged.

Frequently asked questions

What is AUM in mutual funds?

AUM (Assets Under Management) is the total market value of all the money a fund or the industry manages on behalf of investors. It moves for two reasons: net flows (investors putting money in or taking it out) and market performance (the value of the underlying holdings rising or falling). A rising AUM therefore does not by itself mean investors are buying — this page shows flows separately so the two are not confused.

What is the difference between net flows and AUM change?

Net flow is money in minus money out — funds mobilised less repurchases and redemptions. AUM change also includes market movement. In a strong month AUM can rise even while flows are negative, because gains on existing holdings more than offset withdrawals. Reading them together tells you whether growth is coming from new investor money or from the market.

What is a folio and why does the count matter?

A folio is an individual investor account with a fund house — roughly an account number, not a person, since one investor can hold several folios across schemes. Folio growth is the closest widely-available proxy for retail participation: rising folios alongside rising AUM suggests broadening participation rather than larger cheques from existing investors.

Why does ELSS appear twice in the category table?

AMFI reports ELSS (Equity Linked Savings Scheme) under two structural sections — open ended and close ended — because both types exist. They are genuinely separate categories with separate AUM, and AMFI counts them separately in its own grand total. Collapsing them would destroy the larger open-ended figure, so both are shown with their section labelled.

Which mutual fund categories are seeing the biggest inflows?

The inflow and outflow leaderboards on this page rank every AMFI scheme category by net flow for the latest reported month. Tapetide sources the figures from AMFI's own monthly category report, so the rankings reflect the industry's official numbers rather than an estimate.

How often is AMFI mutual fund data updated?

AMFI publishes its monthly category report around the 8th to 10th of the following month, and occasionally issues a revised edition afterwards. Tapetide re-checks daily, so a revised edition is reflected here once AMFI publishes it.
