NSE MCP Server: Give Your AI Real NSE and BSE Stock Data

Tapetide is an NSE MCP server giving Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor quotes, financials, shareholding, FII/DII flows and option chains for NSE and BSE stocks.

Updated 9 October 20265 min read

An NSE MCP server lets an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT pull real data on NSE and BSE stocks instead of answering from memory. Tapetide runs one at https://mcp.tapetide.com/mcp. Connect it once and your AI can look up quotes, quarterly financials, shareholding, FII/DII flows, option chains and company filings for about 8,200 listed companies. This guide covers what the server exposes, how to connect it in about three minutes, prompts to try, and the limits you should know before relying on it.

What an NSE MCP server actually is

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to external tools. A server publishes a list of tools with typed inputs. The AI decides which tool to call, reads the result, and writes its answer from that result.

Without one, an assistant asked "What is HDFC Bank's promoter holding?" either refuses or recalls a number from training data that may be a year or more out of date. With an NSE MCP server connected, it calls get_shareholding, gets the latest reported quarter, and cites it.

Tapetide is a single server for both exchanges. There is no separate BSE MCP to install. You can identify a company by name, NSE symbol, BSE code or ISIN, and search_stocks resolves it.

What data your AI can reach for NSE and BSE stocks

The server has more than 50 tools. These are the groups you will use most for NSE and BSE research.

Quotes and prices

  • get_stock_quote and get_batch_quotes return the latest available price, change and volume for one or many stocks.
  • get_price_history returns daily OHLCV history for charting or return calculations.
  • get_index_performance and get_index_history cover NSE indices such as Nifty 50 and Bank Nifty.
  • get_india_vix returns the volatility index.

Financials and fundamentals

  • get_financials returns quarterly and annual income statement, balance sheet and cash flow data.
  • get_company_profile gives sector, industry, business description and key ratios.
  • get_screener_ratios exposes the ratio set used for screening, and screen_stocks filters the universe on 326 fundamental ratios.
  • get_forecasts and get_earnings_call_summary add analyst estimates and a summary of the latest earnings call.

Shareholding and ownership

  • get_shareholding returns promoter, FII, DII and public holding by quarter.
  • get_stock_ownership breaks down institutional holders.
  • get_promoter_pledge shows pledged promoter shares, a common risk check.

FII/DII and market flows

  • get_fii_dii_flows and get_fii_dii_detail return daily institutional buying and selling, split by cash and derivatives.
  • get_fpi_sectors shows foreign portfolio flows by sector.
  • get_market_pulse, market_heatmap and market_valuations give a market-wide view of breadth and valuation.

Option chains

  • get_option_chain returns strikes, open interest and implied volatility for index options.
  • get_option_iv_history and get_options_analytics cover IV over time and derived figures such as put-call ratio.

Filings, events and news

  • get_corporate_actions lists dividends, splits, bonuses and rights issues.
  • get_stock_events covers results dates and board meetings.
  • get_stock_deals returns bulk and block deals.
  • get_credit_ratings, get_stock_news and get_market_news round out the event picture.

The same data powers the stock pages on the site, so you can cross-check any answer against a page like /stocks/RELIANCE or the FII/DII dashboard.

Connect in about 3 minutes

The remote endpoint uses Streamable HTTP and Google sign-in (OAuth). Most modern clients handle both without any token setup.

Claude.ai

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Tapetide and enter https://mcp.tapetide.com/mcp as the URL.
  3. Sign in with Google when prompted.
  4. Enable the connector in a chat. Claude asks for approval the first time each tool runs. To skip that, set Always allow under Tool permissions.

Full walkthrough with screenshots: /mcp/claude-ai.

ChatGPT

  1. Open Settings, then Apps, and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Create an app with the URL https://mcp.tapetide.com/mcp and OAuth as the auth method.
  3. Sign in with Google, then select Tapetide in a chat.

On a workspace plan, an admin may need to enable custom apps first. Details: /mcp/chatgpt.

Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code

Add an mcpServers entry to your client config:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tapetide": {
      "url": "https://mcp.tapetide.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

For Claude Code, one command does it:

claude mcp add --transport http tapetide https://mcp.tapetide.com/mcp

Client-specific pages: /mcp/cursor, /mcp/vscode, /mcp/claude-code.

Clients without OAuth

If your client cannot do OAuth, create a free personal token at /settings/tokens and send it as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN. For stdio-only clients such as Claude Desktop, run the local helper bunx tapetide-mcp with the TAPETIDE_TOKEN environment variable set. See /mcp/claude-desktop. The MCP overview lists every supported client.

Example prompts to try

Paste these into a chat with Tapetide enabled. Each one triggers a few tool calls.

Compare TCS, Infosys and HCL Tech on revenue growth, operating margin
and ROE for the last 8 quarters. Put it in a table and include the
period end date for each figure.
Show me how promoter, FII and DII holding in Tata Motors changed over
the last 6 quarters. Is any promoter stake pledged?
What were net FII and DII flows in the cash market over the last
10 trading days? Which sectors saw the largest foreign outflows this
month?
Pull the latest Nifty 50 option chain. Show the strikes with the
highest call and put open interest and the put-call ratio. State the
snapshot date.
Screen for NSE stocks with ROCE above 20%, debt to equity below 0.3
and market cap above 5,000 crore. Sort by 3-year sales growth.
List corporate actions, bulk deals and upcoming results dates for
Bajaj Finance, then summarise the latest earnings call.

You can run similar screens visually on the screener if you want to check the AI's filter logic.

Limits and freshness caveats

Read these before you build a workflow on top of the server.

It is not a live trading feed. Quotes are the latest available prices, not tick-by-tick data. Do not use it for order timing.

Fundamentals follow reporting periods. Financials and shareholding update when companies report. A Q2 number stays the latest until Q3 results arrive.

Option chains are end-of-day snapshots. get_option_chain reflects the close, not intraday open interest.

Always ask for the observation date. Add "include the date of each figure" to your prompts. Tools such as get_observation_status exist so the AI can tell you how current a dataset is.

Tool call budgets. The free plan allows 50 successful tool calls per day, up to 1,000 per month. A comparison across three stocks can use five or more calls. Heavier use is covered on paid plans.

Portfolio tools stay inside Tapetide. get_user_portfolio, get_watchlist and related tools read and edit your Tapetide research records only. Nothing places orders at a broker.

Coverage. About 8,200 NSE and BSE companies are covered, including small caps and SME listings. Very recent listings may have thin history.

The data is aggregated from multiple licensed and public sources and structured by Tapetide. Output from the AI is research, not a recommendation to buy or sell any security.

When an NSE MCP server is worth setting up

It pays off when your questions need numbers that change: quarterly results, holding patterns, flows, option positioning. It also helps when you compare many companies, because the AI can loop over tools faster than you can open tabs.

For a single quick check, a stock page may be faster. For anything that combines several datasets, ask the AI and let it fetch them. Start with the free plan, connect your client from the setup guides, and try one of the prompts above.

Questions people ask

What is an NSE MCP server?
An NSE MCP server is a Model Context Protocol server that lets an AI assistant query structured data on NSE listed stocks. Instead of guessing from training data, the AI calls tools that return quotes, financials, shareholding and market flows. Tapetide is one such server, covering about 8,200 NSE and BSE companies through a single remote endpoint.
Is there a BSE MCP server too?
Tapetide covers BSE listed companies through the same server, so you do not need a separate BSE MCP. You can search by company name, NSE symbol, BSE code or ISIN, and the tools return the same depth of data, including financials, shareholding and corporate actions, for BSE only and SME listings as well.
How do I use the NSE MCP server with Claude?
In Claude.ai, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Name it Tapetide and paste https://mcp.tapetide.com/mcp as the URL. Sign in with Google, enable the connector in a chat, and approve tools the first time. For Claude Code, run claude mcp add with the HTTP transport and the same URL.
Does the NSE MCP server give live real-time prices?
No. Tapetide is a research tool, not a live trading feed. Quotes are the latest available prices, financials and shareholding follow company reporting periods, and index option chains are end-of-day snapshots. Ask your AI to state the observation date for every number so you always know how current the data is.
Is the NSE MCP server free?
Yes, there is a free plan. It includes 50 successful tool calls per day, up to 1,000 per month. A single question can use several tool calls, for example a search followed by a quote and a financials lookup. Paid plans with higher limits are listed on the Tapetide pricing page.

Tapetide provides research data and tools. Nothing on this page is investment advice.
