COMPARISON
Best API for Indian stock market data: six options compared (October 2026)
APIs for NSE and BSE data compared on fundamentals, history depth, point-in-time data, free tier and price, with a Python quickstart for developers.
The best API for Indian stock market data depends on what you build: Tapetide's REST API for NSE and BSE fundamentals, quarterly results and daily prices in one JSON API, and TrueData for live tick feeds. Tapetide covers about 8,000 stocks with a free tier of 50 calls a day, NSE Data & Analytics suits licensed redistribution, and EODHD suits apps that need many countries.
We checked each provider's own website on 24 October 2026. Tapetide is our product. Where a vendor's own page does not state something, we say "not stated" instead of guessing.
Which Indian stock market APIs are compared?
| API | Fundamentals | History depth | Point-in-time | Free tier | Paid from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tapetide API | P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, ratios, shareholding, filings | Up to 2,000 days per call; page back to the earliest bar held | Yes: available_from per period |
50 calls/day, no card | ₹499/month or ₹3,588/year |
| yfinance (open source) | Last 5 annual and 5 quarterly statements (RELIANCE.NS) | Daily prices from 1996 for RELIANCE.NS | No | Free library | Free; research and educational use per its README |
| NSE Data & Analytics | Paid Corporate Data product | Paid Historical Data product | Not stated | No | Published tariff PDF on NSE's Products Tariff page |
| IndianAPI.in | Financials, key metrics, shareholding, corporate actions | Not stated | Not stated | 500 requests/month | ₹399/month for 5,000 requests |
| TrueData | Corporate Data API: balance sheets, P&L, shareholding; 6+ years of financials | Not stated for the API | Not stated | No; 7-day trial on its Velocity product | API pricing not published; contact sales |
| EODHD | Fundamentals plan; NSE/BSE depth not stated | 30+ years on paid plans; 1 year on free | Not stated | 20 calls/day | $19.99/month (EOD); $59.99/month (fundamentals) |
All prices checked 24 October 2026 on each vendor's own site. None of these six APIs places orders.
Which API should I use for a Python app with NSE and BSE fundamentals, quarterly results and daily prices?
Use an API that returns all three from one token, in JSON, with dates you can trust. Tapetide's REST API does this at https://api.tapetide.com/v1.
- Quarterly results:
GET /v1/stocks/{symbol}/financials?section=quarterlyreturns every period held in one call. - Daily prices:
GET /v1/stocks/{symbol}/price?days=2000returns up to 2,000 calendar days of daily bars. - Shareholding:
GET /v1/stocks/{symbol}/shareholdingreturns every period held. - Point-in-time dates: each financial period carries
available_from, the date it became public. - Free tier: 50 successful requests a day; errors are not charged.
If you need tick data, Tapetide is the wrong tool. It serves end-of-day prices, minute bars and research data, not a live streaming feed.
How do I call the Tapetide API from Python?
Create a personal token at tapetide.com/settings/tokens. It starts with tpt_rt_. Store it in TAPETIDE_TOKEN and send it as a bearer header.
import os
import requests
BASE = "https://api.tapetide.com/v1"
session = requests.Session()
session.headers["Authorization"] = f"Bearer {os.environ['TAPETIDE_TOKEN']}"
def get(path, **params):
"""GET a Tapetide route and return the parsed JSON body."""
resp = session.get(f"{BASE}{path}", params=params, timeout=30)
resp.raise_for_status()
return resp.json()
usage = get("/me/usage")["data"] # free route: quota left
print("Calls left today:", usage["day"]["remaining"])
quote = get("/stocks/RELIANCE/quote")["data"] # one unit each
quarterly = get("/stocks/RELIANCE/financials", section="quarterly")
prices = get("/stocks/RELIANCE/price", days=30)
holding = get("/stocks/RELIANCE/shareholding")
print(quote["symbol"], quote["price"], quote["pe_ttm"])
Every success returns { data, meta }. Every error returns { error: { code, message } }. Full walkthrough: Quickstart.
Tapetide API
Tapetide is an AI-first stock research platform with a REST API and an MCP server for about 8,000 NSE and BSE stocks. One bearer token works on both, and both share one quota.
- Coverage: about 8,000 stocks, about 140 NSE indices, 4 index option chains, and IV history for about 556 underlyings.
- Data: quotes, financial statements, price history, shareholding, filings, index levels and valuations, option chains, institutional flows.
- Point-in-time: financial periods carry
available_from; adjustment factors, index membership on a date and identifiers on a date are also on REST. - Limits: free 50 calls/day; burst cap 60 requests/minute on every plan.
- Paid plans: Starter ₹499/month (400/day, 5,000/month), Pro ₹999/month (1,200/day, 20,000/month), Pro+ ₹1,499/month (2,500/day, 50,000/month). Yearly: ₹3,588, ₹7,188, ₹10,788. See pricing.
- Trial: 7 days at ₹0 on paid plans; payments are non-refundable after that, except billing errors.
- Docs: OpenAPI document, a Markdown twin of every docs page, and
llms.txt. - Limitations: no live streaming feed; option chains are index-only end-of-day snapshots; ETFs, index funds and bonds have no financial statements; portfolio and watchlist are MCP-only. Younger than the other vendors, with fewer reviews.
- Best for: fundamentals, quarterly results and daily prices from one token.
yfinance
yfinance is an open-source Python library for market data.
- Pros: free, one
pip install, very large user base. - Cons: its README says it is "intended for research and educational purposes" and tells users to check the terms of use for their rights to the data downloaded. On 24 October 2026 it returned only five annual and five quarterly statements for RELIANCE.NS.
- Best for: personal notebooks and learning. Not for a product you sell.
NSE Data & Analytics (official)
NSE sells its market data through NSE Data & Analytics Limited (formerly DotEx International).
- Products: paid real-time data (level 1, 2, 3 and tick by tick), 1- and 5-minute snapshots, 15-minute delayed snapshots, paid historical data, paid corporate data and master data.
- Pros: the official source, with published technical specifications.
- Cons: licensed products with a tariff and usage policy, not a self-serve REST API. NSE publishes its tariff as a PDF on its Products Tariff page.
- Best for: brokers, vendors and firms that redistribute data.
IndianAPI.in
IndianAPI.in offers an Indian Stock Exchange API for BSE and NSE companies.
- Data listed: company profiles, stock prices, technical data, financials, key metrics, analyst views, shareholding patterns, corporate actions and news.
- Price: Free ₹0/month for 500 requests; Hobby ₹399/month for 5,000; Developer ₹799/month for 10,000; Growth Analyst ₹1,799/month for 50,000; Pro ₹3,999/month for 100,000 at 10 requests/second; Enterprise custom (checked 24 October 2026).
- Point-in-time: not stated on its site.
- Best for: quick prototypes that want one endpoint per company.
TrueData
TrueData sells real-time and historical Indian market data.
- Data listed: real-time and historical market data over WebSocket and REST, a Corporate Data API (balance sheets, P&L, shareholding, corporate actions), and corporate announcements.
- Price: Market Data API prices are not published; contact its sales team. Its Velocity data plugin runs from ₹1,699/month (Lite) to ₹3,299/month (Ultima) (checked 24 October 2026).
- Trial: no free API tier; its Velocity product has a 7-day trial with no credit card.
- Best for: live tick feeds and charting tools.
EODHD
EODHD is a global market data API with end-of-day, intraday and fundamentals plans.
- Price: free plan with 20 API calls a day and 1 year of history; EOD Historical $19.99/month; Fundamentals $59.99/month; All-in-one $99.99/month.
- Cost per call: fundamentals requests spend 10 API calls each.
- Unknown: depth of NSE and BSE fundamentals. Its fundamentals page lists "US, UK, EU, and Asian exchanges" and does not name India; check its exchange list before you rely on it for Indian stocks.
- Best for: apps that need many countries from one vendor.
